Excel 2007 stdole2.tlb error

Today I answered a call from a customer about this error that was coming up on their Windows Vista machine.  Everytime I open  Word, it wants to reconfigure it self.  Every time I  open Excel, it gives a “stdole2.tlb error” then it wants to reconfigure and it asks for the Install CD.

After some research, I found several options. This is what I did to fix it.

  1. I went and removed Microsoft Office 2007 from the Programs list.
  2. Then I went and did this:
    Delete “Excel” key from the following location in registry:
    (If some keys can’t be deleted or found, please skip them, this will not influence the result of the troubleshooting)
    Click on the + sign to expand the registry keys, the keys following the backslash (\) are sub keys, right click on the last sub key and click Delete.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Excel
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Excel
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Excel
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Excel
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Excel
    Close the Registry Editor
  3. After that I went and restarted the computer.
  4. I then went and Re-installed Office 2007

I got the information from here:

http://windowsproblemsandsolutions.blogspot.com/2012/12/stdole2tlb-excel-2007-error.html

it is easier to do it like the linked tutorial, but since I had already uninstalled office, i just went and did it like that.

good luck 🙂

    reinstall

    Thanks

    • I dont think you can get it going any other way.
      You can however
      Get the product key with a product key retrieval program;
      Go to microsoft website and;
      See if you can download office install with the key that you have.
      Search google for “download office 2007 with product key” its a legit Microsoft site
